Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene put India's bowlers to the sword on day two of second cricket test

Kumar Sangakkara's seventh test double century has put Sri Lanka in control after two days of the second cricket test against India in Colombo.

Sangakkara is level with England's Wally Hammond on the all time list with only Sir Donald Bradman and Brian Lara having scored more double tons.

Sri Lanka declared its first innings closed on 642 for four, with India reaching 95 without loss at stumps.

Sangakkara struck 219 and shared in a 193-run partnership with Mahela Jayawardene, who was dismissed for 174.

Jayawardene's ton breaks Sir Donald's record for the most test centuries at one venue.

It is Jayawardene's 10th test century at the Singhalese Sports Club ground, surpassing the Australian's nine centuries at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Sri Lanka lead the three-match series 1-0.
