The Cronulla Sharks are close to securing a deal to play NRL matches in Taupo from next season.

The Cronulla Sharks have confirmed they are looking at playing home NRL fixtures against the Warriors in Taupo.

Sharks chairman Damian Irvine and NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley inspected Owen Delany Park earlier this week.

The club is now poised to sign a $600,000 three-year deal.

Irvine says confirmation of a deal is imminent.

He says there are still a few minor details to confirm but they are very keen to establish themselves in the central North Island.

Damian Irvine says the first game is likely to be played within the first six rounds of next year's competition.
