Ferrari has been fined $130,000 by the FIA for fixing the result of this morning's German Grand Prix at Hockenheim
Ferrari has been accused of illegally ordering Felipe Massa to slow down to allow Fernando Alonso to overtake and win the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim this morning.
Stewards have fined the Italian team $130,000 after a call from Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali saw the Brazilian hand the lead to Alonso.
Ferrari has denied ordering Massa, who was leading the race, to slow down to allow his teammate Alonso to overtake on lap 49. However, the stewards saw it differently and Ferrari's ploy, which bolstered Alonso's chances in the drivers' championship, appears to directly contravene rules introduced in 2002, banning team orders.
Massa did not want to talk about the controversy afterwards, only saying that he is working for the team and that is the most important thing.
Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel finished third ahead of the McLarens of Championship leader Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Alonso's win takes him to within 34 points of Hamilton in the standings.
