Phoenix will not play any home games outside Wellington as the club chases attacking midfielder Troy Hearfield

The Wellington Phoenix has ruled out playing A-League games outside the capital next season.

Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata admits they were contemplating taking the team on the road when it was thought the league was going to be expanded.

Meanwhile, Australian Under-23 international Troy Hearfield appears desperate to join the Phoenix. The attacking midfielder is caught up in a tug of war between his current club Newcastle Jets and the Phoenix.

Hearfield has a year to run on his contract but asserts he was granted a release before Newcastle withdrew the offer.

Hearfield's future now hinges on a tribunal ruling by Football Federation Australia
