Nathan Twaddle becomes second member of his family to receive award in New Year Honours list; his grandfather the first

Olympic bronze medallist Nathan Twaddle has become the second member of his family to receive an honour from Government House.

Twaddle has been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to rowing.

He says his dad is a bit jealous as grandfather Bob Twaddle has a Queen's Service Medal.

"My dad said he's going to have to pick up his game now because his dad and his son are both on it (the New Year Honors list). Maybe he needs to figure out something he can do."

Twaddle is one of seven Olympic medallists named in the New Year Honours list.

SPARC chairman John Wells has been made a Distinguished Companions of the New Zealand Order of Merit and Chef de Mission Dave Currie has become a Companion of the New Zealand Order.
