Andrew Todd's positive approach pays off as he wins the men's singles at the national bowls championships

A positive approach has paid off for Australian-based New Zealander Andrew Todd at the national bowls championships in Lower Hutt.

Todd has won the men's singles final after narrowly beating Ken Walker 21-20.

Todd led his opponent Ken Walker 17-6 midway through their match but could only watch as Walker stormed back to level the final up at 20-all before Todd clinched the vital point.

Todd says he is pleased with his mindset, and has plenty of confidence having been in the New Zealand team over the last few years.

He says Walker was drawing very well but his own driving was good and he kept getting everything perfect.

Earlier, Jan Khan claimed the womens singles title with a convincing 21-5 win over Jan Shirley.
