Former number one Roger Federer has approached Pete Sampras' old coach to help him get back to the top of the world rankings.

Roger Federer has sought out Peter Sampras' former coach in an attempt to stop his slide down the world rankings.

The 16-time grand slam singles champion has announced on his website that he is going to spend time with Paul Annacone.

Federer says as Annacone winds down his responsibilities working for the Lawn Tennis Association, they will explore their relationship.

Roger Federer has dropped to third in the world rankings after losing his French Open and Wimbledon crowns and hasn't won a title since the Australian Open in January.
