Gold medal slips from the grasp of Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie at the world 470 championships in The Netherlands

New Zealand yachties Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie are ruing a poor final race which has seen them slip from the gold medal position at the World 470 championships in the Netherlands.

The New Zealanders have won silver after finishing seventh in the medal race, with The Netherlands taking gold after placing third in the last race.

The Italians have won bronze medal.

Despite falling at the final hurdle Aleh is pleased with their performance, although she describes the final race as a tough day, with the Dutch getting away on the first leg.

Aleh says they have had consistent results throughout the regatta.

The overall position of second is an improvement for Aleh and Powrie who finished sixth at last year's world championships.

Aleh and Powrie now head to Weymouth in England to check out the sailing venue for the London Olympics.
