A claim Basketball Australia is to blame for Gold Coast's withdrawal from the ANBL. Only eight team will now contest the upcoming season, after the Blaze were unable to meet minimum financial requirements set by the competition's governing body. Gold Coast had gone into voluntary administration earlier this year. Assistant coach Pero Cameron says they were looking good, until Basketball Australia increased the minimum guarantee from $200,000 to $1 million last night. "The owners should of told them how frustrated they were with the board last night and said as soon as they heard the news they said there was no way they could do that. That wasn't the plan, that wasn't part of the criteria." Cameron says hopefully Gold Coast's licence is only suspended so they can return to the competition next season. Photo: Photosport |
