Vettori, Southee remain doubtful for England series

Ross Taylor's returning, Jesse Ryder's now a possibility, but Daniel Vettori and Tim Southee remain doubtful to take part in the Black Caps upcoming home series against England.

Taylor's due to make his comeback for Central Districts next week, while Ryder will talk to Mike Hesson at the end of the month about a potential return.

New Zealand's Director of Cricket John Buchanan says they won't have a clear picture on Southee's availability until he sees a thumb specialist in four weeks time and Vettori's still some way away.

Buchanan says everything will have to line up well for Vettori to play in the test matches against England.

Daniel Vettori has been sidelined since the World Twenty20 in September.
