A Black Cap has played a pivotal role in helping Otago to a crucial Plunket Shield win over Auckland at Eden Park. Nathan McCullum's scored a well compiled 77 to lead his side past the 223 run target with three wickets to spare. Volts coach Vaughn Johnson says McCullum's knock, along with four wickets in the match, was superb. "A quality player brilliant for us on the park and off the park, he's certainly got a lot to add, and in terms of our younger players they're learning a lot off Nathan." And the drums are beating for Colin Munro to be given a Black Caps call up. Munro's struck his third century for Auckland this season, but it's been in vain as the Aces have fallen to an outright Plunket Shield loss to Otago at Eden Park. He averages 124 this season. Even Volts coach Vaughn Johnson sees Munro as a potential inclusion in the national side. "The guy hasn't played a lot of cricket, I mean it's a matter of whether there's opportunities for him in terms of what the selectors want to do but he along with a number of others and a couple from our side, I would hope they're knocking on the door." Canterbury's looking to bat out the final day against Northern Districts. They're 22 without loss, still needing a further 403 runs to win the match. Photo: Photosport |
