| Cricket News | Thursday August 9 2012 15:42

New Black Caps assistant coach Bob Carter will take his new charges back to school to fix their batting woes.

Carter has been confirmed as Mike Hesson's new deputy, with a focus on batting.

"Going back to the real basics of the backswing, and being able to present and play with two hands - top hand and bottom hand, and getting our feet moving. You know, all the things that perhaps (are) highlighted when we do get exposed to good bowling."

It's an area that has come in for the most criticism in recent years.

"The role will be to deal back to the Black Caps as assistant coach and obviously work in the areas of batting and fielding. I'll be directed by Mike Hesson of course, the head coach."

Bob Carter replaces Trent Woodhill in the coaching lineup, and will relinquish his role as Canterbury coach.
