Quick progress on first day of Canterbury v ND match

Quick progress has been made on the opening day of the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Northern Districts in Christchurch.

Playing a first class cricket match on Hagley Oval for the first time in several years, the hosts were dismissed for 172 after winning the toss.

However, they'll take a 64-run lead into their second innings, after dismissing ND for 108.

Matt McEwan took a five-wicket bag for the hosts, Brent Arnel did likewise for ND.

Peter Fulton has scored the only half century of the match.

Auckland's 319 for five against Wellington at the Basin Reserve.

Colin de Grandhomme's unbeaten on 81.
