Quick progress has been made on the opening day of the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Northern Districts in Christchurch. Playing a first class cricket match on Hagley Oval for the first time in several years, the hosts were dismissed for 172 after winning the toss. However, they'll take a 64-run lead into their second innings, after dismissing ND for 108. Matt McEwan took a five-wicket bag for the hosts, Brent Arnel did likewise for ND.
