The Junior Warriors have failed to claim the NRL under-20s title.

The Warriors trailed Penrith 34-6 with half an hour remaining, but rallied to 34-30.

Penrith ran out the eventual winners 42-30.

Junior Warriors coach John Ackland says they were beaten by a better side.

"Penrith have got three or four of the best players I've seen in the under-20s, and I think a lot of them are going to have long futures in the NRL.

"We're all proud of them, it was their day today."

It was Ackland's final match as under-20s coach.
