NRL referees bosses Bill Harrigan and Stuart Raper have been sacked. The NRL has decided to undertake a restructure which will see the appointment of a new referees elite performance manager. Former test referee Russell Smith will assume the role of interim manager and will assist in deciding the final makeup. The changes come after a season marred by contentious refereeing decisions. Harrigan and Raper came under intense pressure throughout State of Origin and the NRL finals series as their men in the middle made numerous incorrect on-field and video refereeing decisions.
