Perth NRL bid could hurt grass roots

By: AAP | Latest Rugby League News | Wednesday February 15 2012 8:04

The West Australian Rugby League fears grass roots football in WA will suffer if mining entrepreneur Tony Sage is successful in his bid to win a Perth-based NRL franchise.

Sage, who owns A-league club Perth Glory, met with NRL chief executive David Gallop today after entering the race to own a Perth-based rugby league franchise if the competition expands in 2015.

But WARL chief executive John Sackson believes his organisation will be better placed to own the franchise given their close relationship with the game at a community level.
