Retired player mooted for NRL referee panel

Brisbane captain Sam Thaiday believes the ARL Commission should consider adding a retired player to its restructured NRL referees panel.

Thaiday says players lost confidence in some referees and the video review system during a 2012 season littered by blunders.

Former NRL coach Daniel Anderson will be in charge of the whistle-blowers next season, with Tony Archer and Russell Smith appointed as technical advisers.

But while happy with the changes, Thaiday says the ARLC could go one step further by adding a player's perspective to the panel.
