Veteran Kiwi driver Greg Murphy believes New Zealand has made a giant step towards bridging the gap between Australia's V8 Supercar Championship.
Murphy won the two of the three races in the opening round of the brand new V8 SuperTourers class at Hampton Downs.
He says the SuperTourers make the NZ V8s obsolete.
Murphy says the speed of the cars are a lot closer and potentially right on the doorstep of what a V8 Supercar can achieve.
Ant Pedersen won the final race of the round, with Murphy finishing back in seventh.
