Otago has won the national provincial netball title for the first time since 1998. They've come from finishing fourth during round-robin to edge Waikato 59-57 in the final in Tauranga. Otago captain Shannon Francois says their self-belief was the difference. "We were really hungry and we wanted to win because we had been there last year and we knew how devastating it is to lose. Everyone was really determined to get out there and win that final." Te Paea Selby-Rickit shone for Otago, sinking 42 of her 44 shots at goal. Auckland/Waitakere earlier beat top qualifiers Canterbury 53-51 in the third/fourth playoff. Photo: Photosport |
