Panasonic Wild Knights' assistant coach Tony Brown is rubbishing the popular belief that Sonny Bill Williams will pocket nearly $2 million for his stint with the club.

Williams' 12 game contract with the Japanese club is rumoured to be worth as much as $1.7 million.

Brown says that's nonsense.

"I've also had an email from Panasonic saying that the rumours in the media are all wrong, he's not getting paid that much. But I'm not sure how much it is, it'll be still well worth it, but it's obviously been blown out of proportion."

He expects Williams will actually be paid around $1 million.
