Just like everyone else in the province, memories of last year's February 22 earthquake are still raw for members of the Crusaders.
Captain Kieran Read says he was with Richie McCaw when the quake struck last year.
Read says McCaw was on crutches and couldn't walk so he had to pull him off the ground and help get him out of the shopping mall they were in.
He says compared with what many went through, they were extremely lucky.
The Crusaders starting line-up for Friday night's Super Rugby opener against the Blues in Auckland will be named at 9am.
