The New Zealand men's and women's sevens sides have made strong starts to their respective IRB world series tournaments in Japan and China.

The All Black Sevens have downed France 26-7 in their tournament opener in Tokyo, with Gillies Kaka scoring two tries.

They will face hosts Japan in their next pool game before facing Canada shortly before midnight.

The New Zealand women thrashed Brazil 29-nil, scoring five unanswered tries.

They will face Tunisia shortly before rounding out pool play against the Netherlands later tonight.
