de Villiers defends goal kicking woes

By: Nick Walker | Rugby News | Sunday September 16 2012 8:10

Springboks captain Jean de Villiers is leaping to the defence of his goal kickers after their 21-11 Rugby Championship loss to the All Blacks in Dunedin.

South Africa's three kickers combined to kick just two of nine shots at goal, leaving a potential 26 points on the tee.

First-five Morne Steyn landed just one from five, but de Villiers is telling him to keep his head up.

"That's rugby. You make mistakes, I make mistakes as a player. Unfortunately he couldn't kick all his goals, that doesn't make him a bad player."

Meanwhile prop Dean Greyling has been cited for an elbow to the head of Richie McCaw, which saw him sin-binned in the second half.
