A head knock has seen Sam Cane fall to the bench for the Chiefs' final round-robin Super Rugby match against the Blues on Saturday night.

Tanerau Latimer will start at openside flanker while co-captain Liam Messam returns from injury at blindside.

Coach Dave Rennie says Cane wasn't prepared.

"Hasn't trained all week. So he did a bit of stuff yesterday to get the full clearnace.

"So that's just been running round with all week."

Toby Smith starts at prop in the other change in the forwards while there are three changes in the backs.
