Weepu to start from bench

The Blues have named their first side of the year, to meet the Crusaders on Friday night at Eden Park.

All Black halfback Piri Weepu will start from the bench, with Michael Hobbs as expected confirmed to start at 10 outside Alby Mathewson.

Chris Lowrey will start on the blindside ahead of Luke Braid, while his brother Daniel has the number seven jersey.

Four Rugby World Cup winners will start in the pack, with Keven Mealamu, Anthony Boric, Ali Williams and Jerome Kaino all given the nod, while Isaia Toeava will suit up at fullback.
