Phoenix stumble in Gosford

By: Andy Rowe | Latest Football News | Sunday February 19 2012 6:52

Stand in Wellington Phoenix skipper Ben Sigmund has pulled no punches in his assessment of his team's performance in the 2-nil loss to Central Coast in Gosford.

Sigmund says his side was lucky to go into halftime locked up at nil-all and probably deserved to lose the match by a lot more than two goals.

He says if they don't start showing up and playing for each other, they may not be playing at all next season.

Sigmund says if they don't start putting their hands up, they might have to find something else to do at the end of the season.

Tomas Rogic opened up the scoring for the Mariners in the 52nd minute, before Patrick Zwaanswijk finished off the Phoenix in the 83rd.

Perth's leapfrogged the Phoenix and taken third on the ladder after a 2-nil home win over the Newcastle Jets, while Brisbane's beaten Melbourne 3-2.
