Roy Hodgson is the new England football manager. The 64-year-old has been appointed on a four year contract and will take charge of the side for the upcoming European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine. Hodgson will leave his role at West Brom at the end of the Premier League season. He's looking forward to the challenge. "Everyone knows it's not an easy one but I'm also hoping that everybody, fans, supporters, everybody within the country, will get behind the team because it's the team that counts, and it's the team which will win us matches." He hopes to remain friends with Harry Redknapp. The Tottenham manager was the overwhelming favourite for the job after Fabio Capello quit in February. However he has been overlooked by the FA in favour of Hodgson who has been unveiled this morning. "I've got great respect for Harry. He sent me a voicemail message which I've obviously replied to. He's been really gracious. I hope we remain friends, we've unwittingly become rivals but I hope it won't affect our friendship." Hodgson's first game as England manager will be a warm-up match away to Norway in Oslo later this month. Photo: Roy Hodgson (Getty Images) |
