Manchester United's closed to within a point of Premier League leaders Chelsea after a 2-1 win at bitter rivals Liverpool on an emotional day at Anfield. United needed a late penalty winner from Robin Van Persie after 10 man Liverpool had taken the lead after half-time. Their were poignant scenes before kickoff in Liverpool's first home match since their fans were cleared of any responsibility for the 1989 Hillsborough disaster where 96 supporters were crushed to death. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says his team struggled for much of the match. "I thought the first half, Liverpool dominated it, and we were lucky in the second half, we had better statistics in terms of possession, but against ten men, so it was a disappointing night." Manchester City and Arsenal have drawn one all while Tottenham's had a 2-1 win over QPR and Newcastle's beaten Norwich 1-nil. Photo: Sir Alex Ferguson (Photosport) |
