Auckland's eyeing the double on National Hockey League finals day.

Auckland's contesting both the men's and women's finals at Lloyd Elsmore Park this afternoon.

The men will be up first, taking on finals debutants Southern.

Southern coach Dave Ross they just have to play smart.

"It's all about looking after the ball and about teaching young guys to have whole heads. We've got a lot of young guys in our team, as a lot of these teams do, but it's good experience for them and it's all about big moments, playing the big moments well."

Ross says they have absolutely nothing to lose.

"Look, it's a one off game again isn't it, so certainly if we go down, we'll go down fighting so that's just our style."

Play begins at 12.50pm, before Auckland meets Canterbury in the women's final from 3pm.
