The Olympic village has won favour with New Zealand Chef de Mission Dave Currie, two weeks out from the Games.

Currie and his team have had their first access as they begin to set up their quarters with a Kiwi flavour.

He says comparing it to four years ago, there's no doubt in his mind which is better.

He says it's better than Beijing, despite being not as spacious - as there is much more attention to detail.

The first group of athletes arrive on Monday.

Mr Currie's currently putting the Kiwi touches on their athletes' village in Olympic Park.

He says this Olympics could be one of the best.

"London is certainly engaged, a lot of games you go to you wouldn't know in the city that a games is on but I went through London the other day and everyone was excited and there's no doubt London is embracing the games," he says.
