Kiwi BMX rider Sarah Walker has won silver at the London Olympics.
Walker only qualified with the eighth fastest time for the final but got away to a flying start out of the gates.
She's stoked with the result.
"Wonderful. One word: wonderful.
"Started with a fifth, then a fourth, then a third, finished off with a second."
Despite starting from gate six she led on the front straight before slotting behind Colombia's Mariana Pajon at the first corner.
Pajon's gone on to claim gold, with Walker holding off Dutchwoman Laura Smulders to secure silver and erase the disappointment of her fourth placing from Beijing.
Walker says she was incredibly scared and nervous ahead of the race, but handled herself well. The day hasn't gone so well for Marc Willers who failed to make the final of the men's event after crashing in the first race of the semifinal. Willers pulled out of the men's semifinals, injuring himself in a crash in his first moto before limping to eighth in his second. Photo: Getty Images |
