Kiwi claims silver at X Games

Young Kiwi freestyle motocross rider Levi Sherwood has claimed silver on day one of the X Games in Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old has finished second in the men's freestyle event behind Japan's Taka Higashino.

Favourite Nate Adams has finished third.

It's Sherwood's second X Games medal and caps his recovery from a horror crash last year when he injured his wrist, liver, lung, kidney and back.

Sherwood says he questioned his involvement in the sport after the crash.

"I had quite a bit of time off and by the end of it you know I just wanted to go out and ride for fun, and I've been enjoying everything I've been doing this year."

Taka Higashino won gold after completing a back flip while letting go of the handle bars.
