A push is on to have three-time Tour de France winner Greg Lemond installed as the head of world cycling.

Lemond, a long-time critic of disgraced fellow American Lance Armstrong, says he was asked to become interim president of UCI at a weekend meeting of cycling's elite.

Current UCI boss Pat McQuaid is under fire over the Armstrong doping affair but seeks another term in 2013.
