Ian Thorpe's attempted swimming comeback is fast sinking with another sub-par performance in Italy.
Australia's most successful Olympian has been disappointing in both the 100 and 200 metres freestyle at his first long course competition in nearly six years.
He's finished 10th in the 200, clocking one minute 51.51 seconds, seven and a half seconds slower than his best time.
Thorpe has three months to get up to scratch before the Olympic trials.
