New Zealand swimmer Glenn Snyders has failed to make the final of the 100 metres breaststroke at the London Olympics. Snyders flew out of the blocks in the semi-final but faded to finish seventh in the race, well outside the mark for the final. Earlier, Ryan Lochte claimed the first gold medal in the pool. The American's blitzed the field to win the 400 metres individual medley ahead of Brazil's Thiago Pereira and Japan's Kosuke Hagino. Defending champion Michael Phelps could only finish fourth. |
