She's avoided the seeds, but Marina Erakovic faces a tricky first round opponent at the Australian Open, starting on Monday. Erakovic will take on the world number 40 Alize Cornet, who has been as high as 11 in the world. Erakovic and Cornet have played once before, with the Frenchwoman beating the kiwi in straight sets in the ASB Classic in 2010. The pick of the first round matches in Melbourne sees Caroline Wozniacki take on Sabine Lisicki and the clash between grand slam champions Petra Kvitova and Francesca Schiavone. Novak Djokovic will commence his title defence against Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, while Roger Federer and Andy Murray are in the same half of the draw. Photo: Photosport |
