Veteran American Venus Williams is through to a third round showdown with second seed Maria Sharapova at the Australian Tennis Open in Melbourne. Williams has beaten Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 6-3, 6-3 after Sharapova scored a second straight double bagel 6-0, 6-0 victory. Williams says it was a comfortable victory. "I don't think I was hitting as many winners as the first round but at the end I always felt like I was control so that's always a good feeling." Defending champ Novak Djokovic and fourth seed David Ferrer have both won through to the third round in the men's draw. Photo: Getty Images |
