American fifth seed Jamie Hampton has survived a scare to make it through the first round of the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Hampton has come from behind in a 1-6, 6-love, 6-3 victory over Austrian wildcard Tamira Paszek.
Meanwhile Spain's Garbine Murguruza says her straight sets victory over American Christina McHale is the ideal way to come back from a six month injury layoff.
Murguruza says it was perfect, because more things went well than bad.
It's her first match since injuring herself mid-way through the year, and she says it's a huge relief.
"I was so nervous because I almost forgot the score, I was lost a little bit.
"It's difficult to start your summer on centre court, but in the end it was good."
Tournament drawcard Ana Ivanovic is on court in the first doubles match, teaming up with Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.
Venus Williams highlights the night session in the next match on centre court.
In the doubles ASB Classic drawcard Ana Ivanovic and partner Kirsten Flipkens have come from three match points down to win their opening doubles match of the tournament.
Ivanovic and Flipkens have beaten Irina Falconi and Eva Hrdinova 11-9 in a match tie-break, after trailing 9-6.
They lost the opening set 4-6, before claiming the second 6-3.
The number-two seed Ivanovic will open her singles campaign against American Alison Riske on centre-court tomorrow afternoon.
