ASB Classic organisers have confirmed China's Zheng Jie is returning to defending her title in January. The world number 26 has signed on, despite fears she may have opted to compete at the more lucrative Shenzhen tournament. Tournament director Karl Budge is relieved Jie is returning. "We're absolutely thrilled to secure someone of the quality of Zheng Jie as our defending champion. It's a great result for the tournament and helps to relieve some of those fears of the impact that the Shenzhen tournament was going to have on the ASB Classic." The full field for the ASB Classic will be announced on Wednesday. Photo: Photosport |
