The fourth of the America's Cup syndicates will reveal their AC72 catamaran today. Italian syndicate Luna Rossa will launch their boat in Auckland, and will train with Team New Zealand as part of a joint venture. Speaking through an interpreter, team principal Patrizio Bertelli says it's a big moment in their campaign. "What is exciting is that these boats are so different and so new that we're really curious to see how they perform." Patrizio Bertelli says training with the Kiwis will be hugely beneficial. "We're experienced to understand and accumulate experience more, and most importantly because we want to become really familiar with this new boat." He says it's been a two-team effort. "They designed the boat for us but we were involved in deciding what the platform should be like once we put it in the water." The two syndicates will share performance data until the end of the year and begin informal racing in the middle of next year. Photo: Oracle's AC72 (Photosport) |
