It’s such a shame that the world’s most popular sport attracts so many bottom feeders.
It appears that every other story coming out of Euro 2012 involves violence and racism. Is there any other sport in the world that attracts such a vast amount of pond scum?
Or is it merely a percentage game; the bigger the fan base, the more munters surface? Or is it a reflection of the media, always looking for a sensational story to blast out to the masses? Or is it just a true reflection of the world and its village mentality?
Whatever the reason, the fact of the matter is that football fans have a rotten reputation.
Although only a small percentage of the billions that watch the game indulge in the Neanderthal behaviour of which I speak, the game is still tarred with their brush.
New Zealand football finally appears to be gaining and maintaining traction in a rugby dominated sporting landscape, and I sincerely hope it continues to grow and flourish.
It’s well run, the national teams are no longer a subject of derision and the Phoenix keep the sport in the weekly headlines.
The immigrant population continues to grow, bringing more people of international persuasion to our shores, people who bring a passion for the beautiful game with them.
They haven’t grown up being force fed rugby. This will also help swell and solidify the numbers playing the game here.
It’s all looking fairly rosy for footballs future.
I just hope that the villainy that blights the game over there doesn’t get a foothold over here.
That’s all.
