Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo has been awarded the prestigious Ballon d'Or for world player of the year for a joint-record fifth time.

Ronaldo's drawn level with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi as the player to have won the prize the most times.

The Real Madrid forward led his side to the La Liga title with 25 goals and a successive Champions League crown.

However former Scotland international and ESPN pundit Steve Nicol thinks his run could be coming to an end.

He says what they've seen from him is that he hasn't been at his best in the first part of the season and that would suggest maybe it will be the last time he's on the podium.
