After so many near misses, Sergio Garcia can call himself a major champion after winning on golf's biggest stage.

Garcia has won The Masters at Augusta, birdying the first playoff hole to beat Justin Rose who bogeyed.

The duo finished level at 9-under following regulation, both shooting three-under rounds.

But it was Garcia who had the better of the replay on the 18th, finding the fairway first to ease his passage as Rose found some tree trouble.

Garcia has finished top-five 12 times in a major before without winning a trophy.
