UPDATED 6.30pm: A tragic start to the World Rally Championship season.
A spectator has died after Kiwi driver Hayden Paddon rolled late on stage one of Rally Monte Carlo, when his Hyundai hit a patch of black ice and spun.
Paddon has been withdrawn from the rally as a mark of respect.
He said he's incredibly saddened by today's accident and his thoughts are with the family and friends of the person involved.
An investigation has commenced into the incident.
Hyundai Motorsport has extended its condolences to the family, friends and individuals affected.
