Kayla Cullen could be back on the netball court sooner than expected.

The Silver Ferns utility had foot surgery last week having suffered with a stress fracture for more than six months.

She was expecting to be in a moon boot for up to six weeks, but says the healing process of healing has started well.

"I saw the surgeon yesterday, he gave me the all clear to get back on the bike and start walking around without a moon boot."

Cullen is a key signing for the new Northern Stars team, with full pre-season training to start in January.

Cullen said it's refreshing to have clean slate to work with at the Stars.

"There's no legacy, but we're trying to create that next year, with our training and our culture and how we perceive everything."

The new ANZ Premiership will start in late March.
