Kieran Read's pathway back to rugby has been plotted.

The All Blacks captain has missed the opening four rounds of the Crusaders' Super Rugby season, following offseason wrist surgery.

He's started non-contact work with the side today.

Assistant coach Leon McDonald said they hope to have him for their round eight match against the Sunwolves on April 14.

He said Read will get some sort of rugby before playing, whether that's at training or playing club footy.

Matt Todd and Digby Ioane are recovering well from their respective injuries and are a chance to feature in Friday;s game against the Western Force.
