Roger Federer remains no certainty to play the French tennis Open.

The Australian Open champion is taking a break following his triumphs in Melbourne, Indian Wells and Miami and plans on playing no lead-in clay court tournaments ahead of Roland Garros.

Federer says at this stage he intends on playing the year's second grand slam, but his plans could change.

He said if he feels he's not 100 percent in it and fired up then it might be better to skip it, but the break before tournaments could be too long before the grass court season.

Federer said he will make a final decision in five weeks.

The French Open starts in five and a half weeks.
