Breakers forward Akil Mitchell has spoken for the first time over his horrific eye injury.

Mitchell left the court during the Australian basketball league game against Cairns after receiving a finger to the eye, which popped out of his socket.

He said he kept as calm as he could and has described the situation to Daniel McHardy.

"I remember thinking oh man ... this is kinda bad, but I actually felt it kind of out of place and that's when I kind of freaked out a little bit."

Mitchell said he saw the doctor this morning and there was no major damage to be seen.
