New Wellington Phoenix coach Mark Rudan has made his first signing.

Chris Greenacre has been confirmed as the A-League club's assistant coach, having been the interim at the end of last season.

Greenacre told D'Arcy and Goran he's delighted.

"It's finally good to get it out there and now everyone can focus on what's important and that's building a squad. I'm looking forward to what will be an exciting season coming up."

He says he hoped he was always going to be in the running for the job.

"I've been in the game long enough to know that when new coaches come in, often they bring their own staff, but I'm reall delighted to be part of Matt's back room staff now."

Greenacre will no longer continue as assistant coach of the New Zealander under-20's side due to time commitments.
