The Black Caps accept they were well beaten in the first one-day cricket international against India in Napier.
New Zealand batted first and struggled to maintain wickets, eventually being dismissed for just 157.
India made light work of the chase, despite being stopped for dinner and sun glare while they batted, to reach their target with eight wickets and 15 overs to spare.
Black Caps allrounder Doug Bracewell says they were simply outplayed.
"Disappointing loss, obviously. I guess you've got to give India credit, they bowled pretty well. A little bit disappointing with the bat, but it's a big series so we've got a few days to tune a few things and go again at the Mount."
